SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM)

I was the UX point person for the SolarWinds SAM Team for about 6 months. SAM users are primarily system administrators who need to monitor and manage their servers and applications.

During the time that I worked with the SAM Team, we designed and tested:

A new automated monitoring tool for SQL Server that we called 'AppInsight for SQL'
Views into server asset inventory information
Widgets that communicated server warranty status

My responsibilities:

Conduct user research to verify requirements and designs
Develop and iterate wireframes and prototypes using Axure
Collaborate with UX and visual designers -- AppInsight was a big feature, and it was 'all hands on deck'

Current status: These features shipped as part of the SAM 6.0 release. The SAM Team is continuing to build additional automated monitoring tools for other applications, and the design and interaction patterns that we established with AppInsight for SQL Server have provided a solid foundation!
